OUR STORY

Our vision is to make MBSR accessible in BC with programs offered by qualified teachers who have been dedicated to their own practice and to living mindfully for many years.   We wish to support individuals and communities in furthering the practice of mindfulness and awareness through MBSR, MBCT,  Self Compassion and graduate  programs.

Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn first came to Vancouver in 1998 to lead a weekend retreat. In 2005, Dr. Adrianne Ross and a number of local MBSR teachers came together to organize a second retreat with Jon. The workshop was a great success with over 400 people attending.  After the workshop, Jon made a very generous donation to support the ongoing development of MBSR in the Lower Mainland and BC.   Inspired by this seed money, we came together to form a nonprofit organization, MBSR BC, and created a website to profile MBSR teachers and courses. For a number of years, we were also able to offer scholarships to increase the accessibility of MBSR classes to people on fixed or low income.  Our  grassroots MBSR BC group also provided us a space in which to share new ideas, community and mutual teaching support over the last 15 years.

Many of us were fortunate to train under Dr. Adrianne Ross, as authorized by Jon Kabat-Zinn, and although Adrianne is no longer teaching MBSR, she is a huge part of the spirit of MBSR BC and we owe much to her.
